Use a wedge: An inflatable or curved wedge is a standard tool in an automotive toolkit. If you have one, the idea is to pry out the top of the door frame and use the wedge to keep it there so you can reach inside with another tool to access the unlock button. You may need special training, however, to use this method without damaging the paint or the weather stripping in the process, not to mention the realignment job that may be necessary if you don’t know how to pry the door out carefully. Emergency police service: This remedy is only relevant if you’re in an emergency situation. If your pet or child is locked in the car, call 911. The police will arrive quickly, but they’ll break the window and leave you to pay for it. It goes without saying that this fix is for true emergencies only.
